We need to look at the most important question of Stem Cell Research: Where do we go from here?

Have you ever heard a conversation like this at a family reunion before?

“Humans should not play God. They shouldn’t tamper with the unborn and they shouldn’t try to cheat death.”

“But we can save so many people! If we need to sacrifice a few test tube embryos to cure paralysis, I think it is totally worth it. And don’t even bring God into this!”

This was a conversation that has taken place at many people’s homes during thanksgiving over the last decade. On one side, we have the loving traditional mother. One the other side, the incredibly intelligent adult cousin. Most ethical dilemmas were political issues disguised as moral debates. Usually many people zoned out as the argument slowly degenerated into the specifics of the constitution, but this conversation on Stem Cell research brought many questions to the mind of people all over the world. Stem Cell research was one of the first scientific topics that wasn’t morally crystal clear to many people. Many thought it sounded shady and potentially malicious. Many others thought it sounded like some serious progress in the medical field. We will not be discussing whether or not Stem Cell research is beneficial because it has proven to be so over the past few years. Instead we are going to focus on the suture of stem cells in today’s society. Since the beginning of Stem Cell Research, many reports have come into the view of the public, and many advances have been made. This new question now lies on the minds of many: where do we go with Stem Cell Research (SCR) from here?

We have all heard of Stem Cells before, but what do they mean for the Future? What is the 'Plan?'

  • First, we need to educate the public to the types of stem cells and their respective benefitd

  • Second, we need to address the opposition, and show them the potential good found in stem cell research

  • Third, we need to decide which type of stem cell to use for the different real world problems

  • Finally, we need to start putting the debate behind us, and move toward a healthier world!
